When I visited the Fandango Groovers Movie Blog and noticed that a fantastic blog-a-thon was taking place, I decided that the meme would be something I want to participate in. Little did I know what I was getting myself involved with!
Phew! This was a lot harder than I thought it would be … to have to put together a list of your favorite films from each year sounds like a no-brainer, but the deeper I dug, the more I felt like I was doing the films I did not select a disservice. In the end I decided to go with the films that had the most visceral of responses for me. Where applicable (i.e. head versus heart), I added a “runner-up” selection.
* 5.10.2011 – a bit of revisionist history … actually my runner up should be Ang Lee’s Sense and Sensibility (1995)

You’re the first person I’ve seen who picked “Man in the Moon” — I didn’t think anyone else knew about that one! But it’s one of my favorite coming-of-age films, and that’s when I fell in love with Reese Witherspoon.

It is definitely an under-appreciated film. I absolutely loved it and have seen it several times.
Thanks for your comment, M. Carter!

Nice list. I get curious about that Smurf film and boy I wish I could have had Long Kiss Goodnight on the list! I think its probably one of the most underrated action films in the history of cinema. I think it would land on a top ten list actually!

RE: Smurf Film – it came out in ’76 and I loved The Smurfs (and that film) growing up so I picked it 🙂
And yes, Long Kiss Good Night is so kick-ass! I am surprised that it has not gotten as much love as I feel it should. I was juggling between that and Cats&Dogs and ultimately I decided to go with the one that I have seen the most since its release.

Some great choices there, thanks for taking part.

A Room With A View!!! I wanted to pick that but I had to go with The Color Purple. “ARWAV” is one of my all time favorites though. I saw it in the theater I think 8 times. You have tons a great picks, I’ll pretend I don’t see The Smurf movie. Just kidding!

Colleen, you can imagine the euphoria I had when I first went to Florence. It is very touristy but it was exciting to see all the places where they shot the film.
And the Smurfs film … what can I say, it is all about the childhood memories!
Did not know it would be such a provocative pick! 🙂

OMG I love Cats and Dogs!!! Such a great film too!
I totally agree on Long Kiss Goodnight I think its a top ten action film of all times.

@Joel – thanks I Cats and Dogs is so not on folks’ radar. It is a witty rom-com that would knock any modern offering out of the park!

I didn’t know the Smurfs film was made in 1976. In the United States it was released in the early 1980s and I saw it in the theater because I loved the Hanna Barbara TV version. The movie seemed so different.
iluvcinema says
@Tom Yeah that was the result of some research. I remembered it from the 80’s too but for purposes of this exercise I refer to the original release date.
