What does 2013 have in store for us? Only time will tell. But I can tell you what I am most excited for in the cine-verse.
FILM FESTIVAL FUN
TCM Film Festival. I am really really looking forward to heading out to Los Angeles for the annual festival. Stay tuned to this space for my coverage.
I am also hoping to get some Tribeca FF action in as well as continuing my exciting collaboration with the BeneaTHEarth online film festival.
ON THE BIG SCREEN
February
- Beautiful Creatures: Looks like an attempt to keep the young adult crowd engaged, post-Twilight. I am curious mainly on the strength of this film having two of my favorite actresses – Viola Davis and Emma Thompson in it. Also I may need something to beat the winter blahs with.
May
- Iron Man 3: Just because it’s Iron Man!
- The Great Gatsby: Finally! And apparently Jay-Z will be scoring the film; should be INTERESTING to say the least … (and why not the RZA)?
- Star Trek Into Darkness: Was pleasantly surprised by the first one and well, this one has Benedict Cumberbatch in it – that is enough for me to part with my money!
June
- Much Ado About Nothing: See previous post for my anticipation 🙂
November
- Thor: The Dark World: Missed the chance to see the first film on the big screen; certainly will not punt this time around.
December
- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: Yes I am still kinda peeved that this is being broken out into three films but am still looking forward to it!
Release Date: TBD
- Twelve Years a Slave: Not sure when this one is actually coming out but with a rather impressive cast list and provocative subject matter, I am sure that it will bring director Steve McQueen more notice. I am hoping to make this a 3/3 in my appreciation of his feature films.
Hopefully this is just the tip of the iceberg for me and there will be a whole lot of other opportunities and experiences to be had.
How about you all? Let me know what you are looking forward to in movie-land for the year 2013!

The TCM Fest is always great and I plan picking off a few films there this year. I’m looking forward to the 50th anniversary screening of THE GREAT ESCAPE, in fact. Perhaps, we can meet up, Iba.

Much Ado is on my list too. Very excited about it!
Same with The Great Gatsby – Baz Luhrman’s Romeo + Juliet is one of my favourite films. Love his style!

I was not a super fan of Romeo + Juliet but I really liked Strictly Ballroom.

GREAT list of films. I most eagerly await the Marvel flics (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World) and Star Trek Into Darkness. My honorable mentioned would be 12 Years As A Slave because of “Chewy.” I am not geeked at all for any of the Hobbit movies for whatever reason, even though I own all LOTR on Blu-Ray. ANOTHER Much Ado About Nothing? 🙂 Joss Whedon is a busy man…changing topics, I recently watched Alien: Resurrection…didn’t he do that screenplay? 🙂 That was not his greatest moment…and he had no problem sharing his dissatisfaction in this article….sorry for changing topics! 🙂

Several on this list I am looking forward to myself! Great list. I am still looking forward to seeing The Great Gatsby despite the pushback and the score composer, but my hopes aren’t nearly as high as they once were.
Seeing Leo in Django sets the bar higher for his acting. Hope he is able to meet it again.
Nice list. 🙂

I think Gatsby will be alright I cannot imagine it being completely horrible.

The Great Gatsby definitely looks like a visual treat. If it fails on substance at least it’ll have the style to distinguish it.

For sure! At minimum it will be a visual spectacle.
