First a special thanks to Dan at Top 10 Films for developing this blog-a-thon. The idea is basic, if you had a magic ticket, what films would you decide to inhabit.
For my contribution, I decided to take a straightforward approach; there were a series of guiding questions that Dan put together. I basically compiled my list based on these 8 questions. So without further ado, here are my Magic Ticket would take me to ….
What character would you most like to be sat next to on a plane?
I know who I would NOT want to be sat next to – Jackson Rippner played by Cillian Murphy in Red Eye.
As for I would like to be sat next to – one Roger Thornhill as played by Cary Grant (North by Northwest).
What character would you most want to enjoy a passionate romance with?
David Shaw as played by Viggo Mortensen (A Perfect Murder); as a movie, it did not do much for me, but the hot artsy type …..
If you were a cop who would you want as your partner?
Nicholas Angel as played by Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz), of course!
What animated feature would you love to walk around in?
The Snowman- truly magical and I would not be walking – I would be FLYING!
What adventure based on earth would you most like to go on?
As a youth, I really wanted to be a Goonie, so I would have to go with that. But being a bit older (and wiser), my choice would have to be one that is life-affirming. As such, I choose the cross country trip of Sullivan’s Travels.
What movie gadget would you love to try out (or steal)?
It’s a tie. At first I thought it was a no brainer – Doc Brown’s DeLorean from Back to the Future. Time travel is cool. BUT Harry Potter’s Invisibility Cloak ain’t too shabby either.
What film’s plot would you alter and how would you do it?
Suspicion (1941). I would change the ending to one of the alternate endings that did not make the cut [SPOILER ALERT] I would have made Johnnie Aysgarth (Cary Grant) kill his wife Lina (Joan Fontaine). Furthermore I would have been there at his capture!
What one film would you most want to be transported into, simply to be a part of that world?
I think based on recent history, I would have to say the Paris as depicted by Woody Allen in Midnight in Paris. Not only would I be able to inhabit the modern city of Paris, which I love, but I could be transported to the Paris of the Roaring 20’s!
As you can see this ticket would take me far and wide!
Rodney says
Damn, I forgot about Harry Potters invisibility cloak. That would be AWESOME!!! I could get into so much trouble…. he he he!!!
ruth says
Hey, we pick the same one for the last question, Iba! That’d be awesome to hang out in THAT version of Paris for a weekend, isn’t it?
I totally agree about Jackson Rippner, I wouldn’t want to sit next to him either, Cillian’s cuteness notwithstanding.
iluvcinema says
Ruth based on my memory regarding Red Eye, that is what made it so cool in the movie. At first you thought it was one movie but then it turns completely bonkers!
Sherry says
I go back and forth on the ending of Suspicion. Sometimes I pretend that he chose to kill her at another time and for some reason we don’t see it and other times I think that he changed his mind because he loves her.
iluvcinema says
I hear you Sherry. Would definitely make an awesome DVD extra. 🙂
Novroz says
whuahaha at first,I want to answer Rippner for my first question…but because I want to change the ending of Red Eye,I changed it…but I think I forgot to edit some part of my post.
That picture of Viggo is awesome,he looks so manly. I completely forgot about Simon Pegg’s character. He would be a great partner.
iluvcinema says
Thanks Novroz. Rippner immediately came to mind for the first question so I had to find a way to include him no matter what 🙂
Welcome to iluvcinema!
Dan says
Haha – imagine being sat next to Cillian Murphy in Red Eye. Now that one is for when the magic ticket gets a mind of its own and sends you into films you don’t choose. But Roger Thornhill is a great choice – you’d have some great conversations and he’d be a laugh.
Nicholas Angel is certainly a popular choice for cop partner.
Sullivan’s Travle’s – wonderful film. I love Veronica Lake (oh, darn, I should have chosen her for my romance!)
Midnight In Paris…another popular – the city has a great deal to do with it I’m sure.

Hi Dan
I too am rather surprised about the popularity of Nick Angel 🙂 Don’t know why. Yes he i in peril but he also gets to traipse around the English countryside. Not a bad gig.
Claire says
I love your choice of The Snowman, Iba!
The movie gadget question was a fun one to write but there was so many gadgets that I’d like to try out!
Paris is one of my favourite cities and watching Midnight in Paris I wanted to live there, too.
iluvcinema says
Hi Claire – welcome to iluvcinema and thanks for your comment. I agree RE: movie gadgets. There are so many (and so many do similar tasks) in a way we are spoilt for choice.
Castor says
Interesting answers. I certainly want to sit next to Cillian Murphy from Red Eye, what a creep! The HP invisibility cloak is awesome, I can already imagine all the pranks I could pull with it 😉
iluvcinema says
I hear ya Castor … one can do serious damage with that cloak!
Nostra says
I went for the Delorean myself. What would you be doing with the invisibility cloak?
iluvcinema says
Welcome Nostra – well basically one cannot underestimate the benefit of getting in and out of places, especially where you are not supposed to be. You can also freak people out (moving objects around, etc.) going unnoticed in the process.
I have to admit one of the cooler ones that I have read from other blogs is the magic door to anywhere!
YVette says
I love this! Can anyone play? I’d love to respond to these questions on my blog too. Maybe on Friday…
Love your answers. My brain immediately started churning. What would I say? What would I say?
The invisibility cloak sounds like fun. But the DeLorean – time travel – wins the day, I think.
Unless I come with something else. 🙂
iluvcinema says
Yvette I am sure you can!
Stella Kuru says
I love that you chose “Sullivan’s Travels”! I adore that film and it seems to have dropped off the radar for most film fans. And I love me some Viggo, but now that you’ve brought up Joel McCrea in my poor brain, I could see some romance happening there, too. I prefer to be invisible where I am, not in the future, so it is the cloak of invisibility for me! Such fun, this blogathon!
iluvcinema says
STELLA!!!! Welcome. And thanks. Preston Sturges is an interesting character in American Cinema history … unfortunately largely forgotten by many (too many that is). He was a fantastic storyteller.
