We are well and truly in the midst of the awards courting season. Basically this means time for the kids to stay in and now it is the grown ups’ turn to attend the cinema in droves.
For me, this year more than any other in recent memory seems to have a lot on offer. The challenge I put to myself is to try to catch each of the following films by year’s end.
The Skin I Live In
(dir. Pedro Almodovar, starring Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Marisa Paredes)
i luv cinema’s Take
From what I have heard about it is just OTT (over the the top) enough that I will be thoroughly entertained (and possibly grossed out).

A Dangerous Method
(dir. David Cronenberg starring Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley, Vincent Cassell)
i luv cinema’s Take
Freud, Jung and the woman that drove them apart.
Does not seem to be standard Cronenberg fare but the lead actors and story are a real draw for me.

Shame
(dir. Steve McQueen starring Fassbender, Carey Mulligan)
i luv cinema’s Take
Enough has been said on this blog for you all to get the idea.

Wuthering Heights
(dir. Andrea Arnold starring Kaya Scodelario and James Howson)
i luv cinema’s Take
I am really interested in seeing Arnold’s imagining of this classic piece of literature.
Great bookend to seeing Jane Eyre earlier this year. Not sure this will hit our shores in 2011, however.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
(dir. Guy Ritchie starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law)
i luv cinema’s Take
I was pleasantly surprised by the first film; hopefully this one will not disappoint.

My Week With Marilyn
(dir. Simon Curtis starring Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh,
Eddie Redmayne, Dougray Scott, Judi Dench and Emma Watson)
i luv cinema’s Take
A story about the screen legend I knew nothing about.
Really looking forward to watching Michelle Williams’ take on Marilyn.

Honorable Mentions: Tinker, Tailor Soldier Spy, Carnage, The Descendants, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
What do you think of my selections? Did I miss something? Do any of you have a similar goal for this season? Share your comments below.
On my must-see list: My Week with Marilyn, Shame, and Sherlock Holmes
On the fence: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I love the book but I don’t know if I can watch one particular scene in the theater. At least in the comfort of my home, I can fast forward it.
Oh yeah, I know which one you are talking about. I have seen the Swedish version of the film. Goodness gracious – it was brutal!
I cannot believe I left The Artist off the list!
