Check out this trailer for the upcoming film, Detachment directed by Tony Kaye (American History X) and starring Academy-Award winner Adrien Brody. The film premiered at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.
SYNOPSIS
Director Tony Kaye’s (AMERICAN HISTORY X) long-awaited film DETACHMENT stars Academy Award® winner Adrien Brody as Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher who conveniently avoids any emotional connections by never staying anywhere long enough to form a bond with either his students or colleagues. A lost soul grappling with a troubled past, Henry finds himself at a public school where an apathetic student body has created a frustrated, burned-out administration. Inadvertently becoming a role model to his students, while also bonding with a runaway teen who is just as lost as he is, Henry finds that he’s not alone in a life and death struggle to find beauty in a seemingly vicious and loveless world.
Ever since Blackboard Jungle, I have been a sucker for films about teachers – my dad was a teacher as is one of my brothers.
The film is available on demand from February 24th and will be in theaters starting March 16th.
After watching the trailer, let me know what you think in the comments below.
Looks mighty interesting. I love Adrien Brody – he is so odd looking. He should not be as attractive as he is and yet he is. He’s also a fine actor.
I haven’t seen a good film about a teacher in ages.
My late mother always had the highest respect for teachers. The greatest thing she could ever say about anyone is that they were a ‘maestra’ – a teacher.
🙂
I hear ya. When I watched films about teachers with my dad I would always get his opinion on just how accurate it is. Wonder what he would make of this one.
He loved Blackboard Jungle though. I think that was more to do with youth than its accurate portrayal of teachers in the inner city 🙂
Looks similar to Half Nelson. What’s next? Adrien Brody smoking pot in the girl’s bathroom? 😉 But seriously, this looks like it could be intriguing mostly because of the performances. I might check it out.
I did think about Half Nelson when I saw the trailer.
It’s on demand so I may give it a go.
