Mid Week Movie News

Today, I decided to cobble together some of my favorite stories from around the web.

  • More Kick Ass? Universal Studios is in talks to make Kick-Ass 2.
  • File this under I had no idea (originally published on May 1st): Mark Ruffalo has a 6-Picture Marvel Deal.
  •  A great cover story from THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER featuring Marion Cotillard (part of THR’s Cannes issue).

  • On the VARIETY website, news has come that Stephen Frears will direct a forthcoming Freddie Mercury biopic, starring Sasha Baron Cohen.
  • Late last week, it was reported that NY-based Cablevision Systems Corporation is seeking to sell the Clearview Cinemas chain, which includes the historic Ziegfeld Theater, one of the last great old-school movie theaters in the United States.

  • Real or Fake? Over the past day or so, there seemed to be a little confusion about the possible leak of the poster for Judd Apatow’s THIS IS 40.
  • “Clip Joint” from the GUARDIAN newspaper – a look at arguments as portrayed on the silver screen (shown: still from Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor).

  •  SALON magazine’s breakdown of THE AVENGERS’ record-busting box office returns.

That’s me done. Are there any movie-related stories that have piqued your interest?

Very excited for this Freddie Mercury biopic. Reckon this might be Sacha Baron Cohen’s chance to get the Oscar he was robbed of for Borat! (I’m only half kidding)

      It is possible, eh?
Should be solid especially under the direction of Frears.

Great links, most particularly the Marion Cotillard one. Red will be happy to read that one 😉

Kick Ass 2? No thanks. I enjoyed the first but there is no need for another.

Hey Scott, of course there is a need $$$$$ 🙂
Obviously without Matthew Vaughn directing, some concern could be raised.

I’m not the biggest fan of Sasha Baron Cohen but yeah, he does resemble Freddie Mercury so I think that’s inspired casting.
