Weekend Cinematic Options

Happy Friday Everyone!

If you are Stateside, I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July. It kind of sucked that it landed in the MIDDLE of the week this year, but maybe you were able to stretch a long weekend out of it. My holiday was spent doing a spot of retail therapy followed by some TV marathon vieiwing (principally The Twilight Zone, Merlin and Star Trek TNG). I did not head out to the theaters.

As bad as it is for me to admit, I kind of forgot about the big holiday movie release o’ week, the reboot/reimagining of Spider–Man, or shall I say The Amazing Spiderman. I think the reason for my mental lapse is that Spiderman is entering the ever increasingly crowded space of “event” motion pictures, made to draw in the summer audiences and amaze us with the special effects and grand scale. That along with the release day (a Tuesday) and the fact that this ‘reboot’ seems a bit early (last Spidey film graced our screens in 2007 – a mere 5 years ago). The idea of revisiting a movie so soon left me largely indifferent about this latest incarnation, even in spite of the fact that I am an Andrew Garfield fan.

Looking at the list of other films released this weekend the only other standouts appear to be Oliver Stone’s Savages and the surely-not-to-be-missed Katy Perry concert/biopic Katy Perry: Part of Me.

Well this leaves me with very few options, so I think I will settle on catching something already out in cinemas.

How about you all? What will you be watching this weekend, either at home or on the big screen?

I’m still trying to find the time to sit and watch Gone With the Wind!

Went to see The Amazing Spider-Man and really enjoyed it. Still too soon for a reboot, but least it was done pretty well.

As this weekend looks to be utterly miserable, I think I may just curl up and watch something on the telly. Or finally rewatch Drive.

Found out how hot it will be so I am likely to not go anywhere – HELLO Wimbledon and Netflix!

I’m boycotting it for the “too-soon” re-boot (smile). I’ll catch it on demand or Blu-Ray down the line. That stated, I am not shocked that is good, based on the Garfield dude.

I hearsay it is a good film. But I too will probably wait a minute to catch it.

I probably won’t be seeing Spiderman movie any time soon, it may have lovely Emma Stone but it still seems horribly unnecessary.

I’m skipping all these new releases and went to see Moonrise Kingdom. I don’t regret it!

Cool beans. But I am pretty sure that Moonrise Kingdom is not my cuppa.
