Second in a Two-Part Series
In the previous installment of “Loving Movies in the Time of COVID,” I spoke broadly about how living in this time of COVID has impacted my movie-loving life. Now. I would like to dive a little deeper into how the pandemic has affected film festival-going.
Here is my personal account of some of the creative ways my favorite festivals adjusted to the times.
First things first – about the title (Ford v Ferrari) – I guess the title swap is designed to avoid any American audience confusion with the Steve McQueen (the actor) film from 1971 – Le Mans. Regardless, for this Yank, this film will sit in my memory as Le Mans ‘66 since I saw this at this year’s London Film Festival.

[Read more…]I love myself a good heist film. So you can imagine the excitement I had when I saw promotions for director Steve McQueen’s latest effort (Widows) over the course of the summer of 2018.
Bolstered by an all-star cast, headlined by Viola Davis, there was not much that could go wrong. And it did not. Co-adapted by McQueen and Gillian “Gone Girl” Flynn from a TV series originally developed by English author Lynda La Plante, Widows is an entertaining balance of what makes heist films so much fun along with McQueen’s trademark, message-laden visual and multi-layered storytelling.
