Home Viewing Rec: Widows (2018)

I love myself a good heist film. So you can imagine the excitement I had when I saw promotions for director Steve McQueen’s latest effort (Widows) over the course of the summer of 2018.

Bolstered by an all-star cast, headlined by Viola Davis, there was not much that could go wrong. And it did not. Co-adapted by McQueen and Gillian “Gone Girl” Flynn from a TV series originally developed by English author Lynda La Plante, Widows is an entertaining balance of what makes heist films so much fun along with McQueen’s trademark, message-laden visual and multi-layered storytelling.
